L.L. Bean Catalog Misprint Rings False

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

A misprinted number in an L.L. Bean catalog has reportedly caused the Freeport, ME, cataloger to offer a reimbursement to a Virginia company, according to reports.

Bean Kids’ Back-to-School ’99 catalog features the number 1-800-LLB-KIDS, instead of 1-877-LLB-KIDS. The Virginia firm received many order from customers who received an L.L. Bean Kids catalog with the wrong toll-free number printed in it. Marketers pay for all calls coming in to their toll-free numbers.

Neither company disclosed how many wrong calls had been received, nor how many catalogs had been printed with the incorrect information.

According to the wire services, L.L. Bean has taken over the incorrect phone number listed in its catalog from the Virginia company. A financial settlement between the two companies is being worked out.
