Posted on

Lattice Engines, a company that uses big data to inform sales professionals, has created an educational infographic walking us through the long history of sales technology. The vertical time line starts at 1440, when Johannes Gutenberg invented the printing press. Here are some other important years for sales technology:

– Early 1980s: voice mails become a popular way sales reps send messages

– 1987: New Jersey becomes the first state to offer caller ID, which served as a warning to telemarketers

– 1990s: companies begin utilizing CRM solutions (e.g., Oracle, SAP, Microsoft)

– 2004: Facebook launches

– 2007: the iPhone is unveiled to the world

– Today: “big data” technology changes the sales technology landscape
