Just the mere thought of paying for college tuition can strike fear in the hearts of everyday Americans. More and more stories emerge of students forced to drop out of college and others unable to pay tuition due to financial difficulties.

Upromise, the largest private source of college funding contributions in America, is hoping to ease that pain for three winners after reprising a video contest offering $10,000 toward a higher education.

Under the promotion, Tuition Tales, people can submit a 30-second videos in one of three categories: saving for college, in college now and paying it back. The videos will be judged on quality, fit to theme and creativity. One contestant in each of the three categories will win $10,000.

The twelve top videos will be posted online and open to a public vote from May 12 – 20, with the winners announced May 20.

In addition, the three winners and nine finalists will win a $250 Bed Bath & Beyond gift card and a $250 Bank of America Visa Gift Card. The contest runs through May 3.

To kick off the promotion, 75 inner city kids ages 5 to 14 years old built “the world’s largest piggy bank” as a symbol of the importance of saving for college at the Time Warner building in New York City. The hope is that the bank, 14 feet tall, 22.5 feet long, and six feet wide, will make it into The Guinness Book of World Records.

Last year, Upromise ran a similar contest offering $25,000 toward college tuition. More than 250 videos were submitted.

Upromise, launched in 2001, has more than 10 million members and $475 million in member rewards. Members save money for college by purchasing everday products and services at grocery and drug
