POWERnews

for The Week of February 10, 2019

Hello, and welcome to the second installment of our new weekly newsletter.

This week, we’re shaking off the coma from the lowest-scoring Super Bowl in history and turning our attention to the brand activations that stood out from the crowd. While millions of Americans were tuned in to see the ads, our team was on the ground in Atlanta and logging thousands of steps on their Fitbits to make sure they didn’t miss all of the face-to-face brand engagements that dotted the city and fan zones. Check out our full coverage of the most talked-about sponsorships and experiences at the game.

With Super Bowl fever in full swing many conversations turned back to Nike and Colin Kaepernick, who recently became the face of Nike’s 30th Anniversary “Just Do It” campaign. We chatted with a few CMOs for their take on the partnership and have their exclusive insights below.

Also trending this week, we take a closer look at Gucci’s “black face sweater” flap, the all-white sneaker adidas released as part of its Black History Month collection—and how both brands responded in the wake of the public outcry.

And not controversial in any way (we promise), we have a great piece on optimizing your LinkedIn presence. Can you think of any business that would benefit from ignoring its LinkedIn page in 2019? Neither can we.

Jim Gaffigan once said, "Without Valentine's Day, February would be... well, January." So chins up, everyone. We’re nearing the halfway point. Here’s to warmer days ahead.
