Experian’s Marketing Solutions division has terminated 170 people–5.6% of its workforce—in an effort to reduce costs and reallocate resources to the most lucrative projects.
The cuts, which affected both management and non-management personnel, mostly took place in the firm’s Schaumburg, IL facility, although other offices also lost staff, according to spokesperson Donald Girard.
The Marketing Solutions unit, which offers a variety of database services, is comprised of the former Metromail and Direct Marketing Technologies. Sales for the division rose by 4% in the first quarter, compared with the same period last year, Girard said. The quarter ended on June 30.
Girard explained that the unit wants to move resources from low-priority to high-priority projects—those with the highest revenue and profit potential.
He added that the cuts, which affected 2.6% of Experian North America’s workforce, were part of a “continuous improvement” process.
Last month, in a separate move, Experian’s Information Solutions unit, which provides credit reporting services, laid off 150 employees, or 10% of its workforce. Girard explained that the firm’s business units operate independently of each other.
Overall, the Orange, CA-based firm experienced a 3% revenue increase during the first quarter, compared with last year.
