The Dish on My Dinner

Posted on by Melissa Dowling

As soon as I saw the plates–glass chargers with gold beaded trim–I knew this wasn’t going to be your typical rubber chicken industry dinner.

Sure, it was chicken-but it was Roasted Breast of Petaluma Chicken, served with a Warm Portobello Tart with Vine Ripened Tomate Fondue. It also came with a Green Bean Bouquet, and was in a Chardonnay and Chicken Jus.

Where was I? At the Direct Marketing Educational Foundation dinner and auctions in the swanky Bellagio hotel on the Vegas strip on Saturday.

Why am I writing about food now? I just found the DMEF dinner menu in my briefcase and was reminiscing about what I had to eat.

Why am I really writing about food now? At the DMA fall show they are not giving the press meal tickets this year. So I had a Nathan’s hot dog from the stand outside the exhibit hall for lunch.

Not quite as elegant as a salad made from Chiffonade of Romaine Lettuce, Roquefort Cheese, Haas Avocado, Pancetta, Hot House Tomatoes, with Buttermilk Dressing. And the oatmeal cookie from the press room (hey, at least there’s still some food in the press room) is not the same as a Grand Marnier Frozen Souffle with Candied Strawberries.

But I know: Times are tough. I just hope the exhibitors haven’t cut back on their treats, or I’m really going to go hungry.
