Yelp Purchases Qype, Europe’s Biggest Local-Review Site

Posted on

Yelp logoYelp has purchased Qype, the biggest local-review site in Europe, for $50 million. The acquisition will help Yelp in its expansion beyond the U.S., and in its fight with Google and Facebook for users and advertisers. Yelp launched in Poland two weeks ago to enlarge its European footprint, which already included countries like Finland, Norway and Denmark. This move not only gives Yelp market share in Europe, it also equips them with Qype’s sales team, which has more experience in the continent. (Businessweek, VentureBeat)
