Walmart “Smiley” Face Returns after 10-Year Hiatus

Walmart is bringing back its yellow smiley face image to signal its low-price marketing amid increasingly tough price competition from the likes of Amazon.com and others.

walmart smiley faceSmiley is making a return to advertising and marketing after a 10-year hiatus. The announcement was made at a U.S. employee’s meeting to ensure everyone is on board.

Walmart CMO Tony Rogers said in a Walmart blog post,“You’ve heard us talk a lot recently about the importance of leading on price. Low prices have always been our key differentiator and we have an unwavering commitment to providing our customers with low prices every day. As we were thinking through how to communicate our low prices to customers, we felt like it was time to bring back an old friend, and one of the most-recognized symbols of low prices … Smiley.” Read on …
