The Good Guys Get Some

The Coupon Information Corp. recently awarded its Gold Medallion to IRS Special Agent Paul Deery and Assistant United States Attorney Paul Sarmousakis, both of Philadelphia. The award was made for the identification and successful prosecution of more than $55 million in coupon fraud. It also honored the “demonstrated long-term commitment” of both men; both hold CIC Bronze Medallions for previous anti-fraud efforts.

The CIC also awarded Glenda Pappillion, IRS Director of Investigation (Northeast region), a special certificate of recognition and appreciation for excellence in performance. Pappillion has been a strong advocate for the criminal investigation of individuals and organizations associated with coupon fraud.

“These public officials stand as proof that professionalism , dedication, and plain hard work can make a difference. Their help in other areas has put an end to at least another $40 million of coupon fraud,” says Bud Miller, CIC operations manager.

“Coupon misredemption remains an important problem for the industry and a significant financial concern for manufacturers,” he warns.
