The 1998 World PRO Awards of Excellence
There was a smile for every lightbulb in the vaulted ceiling of the Grand Ballroom of Chicago’s Navy Pier. There, on the evening of October 6, some 500 promotion industry luminaries and clients from around the globe gathered to celebrate the best in the profession.
A total of 58 agency principals collected Gold Awards for the best programs in their regions, and 16 of them collected World PRO of Excellence Awards. Presenters were promo magazine publisher Kerry J. Smith, World PRO Awards director Kerry E. Smith, and APMA Worldwide president Keith McCracken.
The night’s big winner was Buenos Aires-based Stopromotion, whose Have a More Active Role campaign for Ledesma paper took the Best in the World Award. The promotion tied in with Argentina’s National Zoological Foundation, asking children to draw animals on Ledesma notebook paper and enter them into a contest. The winning drawings appeared on actual Argentine government stamps. (See full awards coverage on page 75.)
