Orbitz Takes Weather Channel Viewers Online With Sweeps

By Nov 10, 2005

Online travel company Orbitz is taking flight with a sponsorship on The Weather Channel, launching a four-week sweepstakes that will award a grand-prize trip to a weekly featured destination.

Under the sponsorship, Orbitz will sponsor a segment on The Weather Channel’s weekend morning program Weekend View called “Where’s the Weather?” starting Saturday (Nov. 12), which challenges viewers to guess a mystery location based on clues revealed each hour during the show. The segment will unveil weather conditions and visuals from the secret location to give viewers tips to solve the mystery.

Participants can download a weather-tracking map from Weather.com to record clues. Players can enter once per day by submitting their guesses online. All correct guesses will be pooled, with one winner chosen at random each week. The top winner gets a one-week rental of a vacation home at the feature destination, a rental car for one week and airfare for four.

Weekend View is a revamped version of The Weather Channel’s previous Weekend Planner show, which helps viewers plan their weekend featuring an anchor-style show format. The show airs Saturdays from 7 to 11 a.m. ET.

The sweepstakes runs through Dec. 4 via PowerPact, Richmond, VA. Online materials support.
