’61 Olds Used as Bait to Catch Yahoo! Customers

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

A 1961 Oldsmobile, tricked out as part of a Labor Day Yahoo! Mobile promotion, is far from the stuffy images brought to mind by your grandfather’s Oldsmobile.

This vehicle has been outfitted with the latest technology, including a Kenwood stereo, DVD navigation system, seven-inch touch screen DVD receiver, cellular phone from Verizon Wireless (the wireless sponsor for the promo), a Sony Playstation with wireless remote consoles and an iPod hookup. And, it’s all for the taking for whoever wins the Yahoo! Mobile Customer Ride Sweepstakes.

The car will be at the Santa Monica Pier in California from Sept 2. through Sept. 6. Anyone looking to get behind the wheel of the Olds (those 16 years and older with a cell) can enter via their cell phones. On-site street teams will help with the entry process and provide demonstrations on how to access Yahoo!’s mobile services.

The entire promotion, which runs from Sept. 2 through Sept. 30, touts Yahoo!’s products and services such as news, sports, e-mail, instant messenger, games, the weather and others available through major wireless carriers, including Verizon.
