Oriental Trading Company has named Dave Johnson senior VP of marketing. Johnson most recently served as founder and president of Crosspoint Marketing. Before that he was executive VP of direct marketing and ecommerce for School Specialty Inc. Johnson also spent 15 years with Lands’ End, including five as VP of direct marketing. Oriental Trading sells party supplies, arts and crafts, toys and novelties and home items.

The Titanium and Integrated Jury at the 57th Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival, which was going to be chaired by Bob Scarpelli, DDB Worldwide’s chairman and chief creative officer, will now be chaired by Bob Greenberg, chairman, CEO and global chief creative officer of R/GA. He takes over from Scarpelli, who according to a statement from the Cannes Lions International Advertising Festival contracted an infection. While Scarpelli is recovering, travel is not possible, according to the Festival’s statement. The Festival will be held June 20-26 in Cannes, France.

MerchantCircle, a social network of local business owners, has hired Jeremy Kreitler as vice president of product management.

Kreitler brings more than 15 years of local experience to the company, with a career that began at BellSouth Yellow Pages where he helped implement the company’s first online products. Following BellSouth, Kreitler spent time at educational software developer ECollege.com and Mapquest.

In 2002, he joined Yahoo where he led the maps division as director of product management and general manager of Yahoo Maps.

LinkedIn Hires Yahoo! Marketer as Vice President
Professional-focused social network LinkedIn has named Patrick Crane, vice president of marketing for Yahoo!’s network division, to be its vice president in charge of marketing. LinkedIn currently has 11 million members and is growing at a rate of more than 180,000 members a week, according to company stats. At Yahoo!, Crane was responsible for bringing Yahoo! Answers to market in 2005 and leading it to become the top Q&A site on the Web.

Blue Nile Appoints New CFO
Online jewelry retailer Blue Nile has tapped Scott Devitt as chief financial officer of the Seattle-based company. Devitt comes to Blue Nile from a post as managing director and senior analyst of Internet consumer services at Stifel Nicolaus & Co. Internet search provider LookSmart has tapped David Hills, former media solutions president at 24/7 Real Media, as its new CEO. Hills will assume office Mon., Oct. 25, replacing Damian Smith, who has served as interim CEO since January. Before joining 24/7 Real Media in August 2003, Hills served as COO and president of sales for About Inc.

InfoUSA has appointed Martin Kahn to its board of directors. Kahn previously served as chairman of OneSource Information Services, prior to its acquisition this year by infoUSA. Prior to this he was chairman of Ovid Technologies, Inc., an aggregator of medical and scientific databases and journal articles. Currently, Kahn is a venture partner with Rho Ventures. He also serves as vice chairman of the board of eTrav, Inc., a provider of online travel and learning programs, and is a member of the board of Thinkwell, Inc., a producer of multi-media textbooks.

Draft New York has named Laura Guerra vice president, account director, and Melissa Siegel as vice president, group production director. Guerra comes to Draft with 15 years of management experience at companies such as Digitas, OgilvyOne, and Chase Manhattan Bank. Most recently, Guerra was vice president, account director at Grey E Marketing, where she managed accounts for Chase Manhattan, CheapTickets, and Bell South. Siegel spent more than nine years at OgilvyOne, where she most recently served as vice president, executive print producer. She has also worked at J. Walter Thompson Direct, Wunderman Cato Johnson, and Lintas where she managed production teams for businesses like IBM, American Express, Cisco, DHL, Goldman Sachs, and Unilever.

The Neiman Marcus Group Inc., Dallas, appointed Steven Dennis as senior vice president, strategy, business development and multi-channel marketing. Dennis previously spent 12 years with Sears, Roebuck and Co, where he held positions in strategy, new business development, general management and marketing. His was most recently vice president, corporate strategy.

Jeff Marcus has joined New York-based 24/7 Real Media Inc as senior vice president-technology solutions. He succeeds Tony Schmitz, who will assume the new role of director of worldwide technology solutions and join the company’s board of directors. Marcus joins 24/7 from Mirror Image Internet, where he served as vice president of streaming media and also served as vice president of operations.

Jim Hood and Wes Bray have formed HipCricket LLC, a wireless marketing and event company with offices in Essex, CT; Seattle; Los Angeles and Sydney, Australia. HipCricket is currently running a national “EMMYs Trivia Challenge” for the Academy of Arts & Sciences. TV fans will have the opportunity to answer two trivia questions a day for the 10 days leading up to the Sept. 19th broadcast, with the winner to attend the taping of an EMMY-winning show.

Integrated marketing communications firm Tiziani Whitmyre Inc., Sharon, MA, named Mike Halak as senior interactive marketing developer. He joins the company from his own interactive design firm in Boston. Halak was previously a graphic designer and interactive developer at the Bellevue Institute in Bellevue, WA.

Next Generation Media Corp., Springfield, VA, has appointed Ira Gold as vice president of production. His experience includes time as president of a consulting firm specializing in color electronic prepress and desktop publishing solutions, and as vice president operations and general manager of Gotham Graphics Inc., Lyndhurst, NJ.

Melissa Payner-Gregor, president of Bluefly Inc., will assume the additional title of CEO at the New York-based online fashion retailer. She will succeed Ken Seiff, who served as the company’s chairman and CEO since its inception in April 1991. Payner-Gregor has been president of the company since Sept. 2003. She is the former president of both the Spiegel Catalog and Chico’s FAS. Separately, Bluefly’s board of directors elected Alan Kane as chairman. He is a professor of retailing at the Columbia University Graduate School of Business.

Tim Dorgan has been named CEO of the J. Brown Agency and Vince Weiner was promoted to president of the company’s Stamford, CT office. Dorgan will replace Jon Kramer. Dorgan will report to the J. Brown Agency board of directors, comprised of executives from Grey Global Group, and Crossmark, Grey’s joint venture partner in the J. Brown Agency. Prior to joining J. Brown in January 2003, Dorgan was executive vice president at Partners In Loyalty Marketing. Before that, he served as president of Peapod Interactive and Ketchum Advertising/Chicago. His advertising agency experience has included J. Walter Thompson, Bozell, Henderson Advertising and Lee King & Partners. Prior to assuming his new role as President of J. Brown’s Stamford office, Vince Weiner, was EVP of Director Of Client Services. Weiner, previously executive vice president of client services at J. Brown, was a founding member of the J. Brown Agency management team. He began his advertising/media career in the Leo Burnett Management Training Program in 1984.

MKTG Services, Newtown, PA, has appointed John Ahern as senior account executive of alternative media. Prior to joining MKTG, he headed the insert media division at Mokrynski & Associates. He has also held positions at BMG Direct, American List Counsel, Action Markets and Special Purpose Marketing.

Karen Yagnesak has been named vice president of marketing and communications for FindWhat.com. She joined the company in April 2002 as director of marketing and communications. Previously, she served as director of marketing for Goldfarb Consultants, an international marketing research firm that merged with Millward Brown in 2002 forming Millward Brown Goldfarb, a member of The Kantar Group–WPP Group’s information, insight and consultancy division. She also served as senior manager, corporate marketing for Bank of Montreal, and has held several roles within General Electric.

DuPont vice president Don Linsenmann has joined the advisory board of digital communications firm TMX. He will assume the role of senior advisor and business development counselor.

ClientLogic has promoted Erika Baez to client management manager in the List Management Division. She joined the company in March 2002 as a list management associate in the production area. She will continue to focus on HCI, Blair and Bookspan and will now take on responsibility for overseeing all production aspects of Playboy and Cook’s Illustrated.

ValueVision Media, the television home shopping network, has named Allen Morgan, managing director at venture capital firm Mayfield; John Buck, CEO, Whitefish Ventures and Ron Herman, president/CEO, GE Equity to its board of directors.
