Nintendo Rewards Store Employees Selling its Products

Nintendo wants employees at Hollywood Video to steer customers to its products this holiday season and has launched an employee rewards program to make sure it happens.

Nintendo sells its line of consoles, games and accessories at Game Crazy, a retail store within some 700 Hollywood Video stores nationwide, where players can buy, play and trade new and used games. The program pits store against store. Whichever 18 stores exceed corporate sales goals for the most Nintendo product during this competitive selling season, will get a cash bonus loaded onto a Visa gift card. The card is co-branded with Nintendo’s Mario character from the popular game, “Mario Golf: Advance Tour.”

“This was a way for Nintendo to team up and make the store associates advocates of Nintendo products during this key holiday season,” said Kelley Poston, retail marketing manager for Nintendo. “We’re not rewarding them for what they would typically do, we’re rewarding them for over and above.”

About 3,800 employees all got the Visa card with $5 preloaded as an early incentive when the program was announced in September. The program ends Dec. 26 and the payout (which was not disclosed) will be given out to the associates of the winning stores on Jan. 15.

“So they can go buy the gifts they really wanted for Christmas,” Poston said.

This is the first time Nintendo has held this type of incentive program. In the past, employee rewards programs have included free products, game demos and some cash incentives.

Quantum Loyalty Systems, Incline Village, NV, is managing the program.
