Disney’s new Pixar release “Up”, set to open May 29, is about an old man who goes adventuring around the globe in a flying house. So it’s not surprising that Northwest Airlines World Vacations is hooking into the highly-anticipated summer launch with a sweepstakes that lets entrants take a chance on winning a family trip for four to Europe. (But leave the house at home.)
To enter, users must register on MySpace, if they’re not already there, and then must list the “Up” MySpace profile page as one of their top friends to their own MySpace profile page. They must then add a comment to the “Up” profile on MySpace. Players 14 and up may enter the sweepstakes, which runs through June 8, 2009.
A winning entry will be chosen by random drawing and will be notified via e-mail around June 17. The winner will be able to choose a destination from a list of European cities serviced by Northwest Airlines.
Besides offering a way to enter the “Up Adventure of a Lifetime” content, the movie’s MySpace page lets visitors view trailers of the film and watch short episodes with the movie’s main characters. They can also click to learn more about those characters, read a plot synopsis, view a gallery of stills, or download wallpapers, posters and buddy icons. The MySpace profile page links to both the movie’s official page on the main Disney site and to a dedicated movie page on Yahoo with videos, stills and a countdown widget.
“Up” is the first animated film from Pixar Studios to incorporate digital 3-D technology, a platform that has seen some success in specially-equipped theaters in the last year. It was also chosen to open this year’s Cannes Film Festival, which begins May 13—the first Disney picture, animated feature or 3-D film to have the prestigious launch spot in that showcase.
