This year marks Cabela’s 50th anniversary, and to celebrate, the outdoor-gear retailer has unleashed a sweepstakes offering its largest prize pool to date. Among the prizes are a walleye fishing trip for two, 50 Chevy trucks, 50 “fine” firearms and 50 pairs of binoculars. There are a lot of other “50s” in this promotion as well, to remind customers of the longevity of the brand: 50 $500 Visa gift cards, 50 binoculars and 50 Coleman camping packages.
The promotion is meant to reward loyal customers, but it will certainly pull in others who will hopefully become interested in purchasing from Cabela’s and turn into lifelong shoppers.
The points of entry are numerous. People can enter from kiosks in any Cabela’s store or use codes on their register receipts to enter online. Customers who use their Cabela’s-branded credit cards will automatically be entered to win, and the more they buy the more chances they get. Cabela’s is also promoting the sweeps in its catalogs and P-O-P materials, via email to existing customers and through Facebook and Twitter.
To help out top sponsor Chevy, the entry form asks about truck buying or leasing interests and other data that will enable Chevy build on its customer database, said Eric Friedberg, president of sales promotion agency Cohen-Friedberg Associates, which is handling the promotion.
The promotion, which began in January, will stretch out through the year. The first of 10 drawings, to give away 18 trucks, will be held April 18. Subsequent drawings will be held in September and November, with the grand finale wrapping it all up over the holidays. Adding a nice touch, the winners all receive a personal phone call.
