AARP Tunes Up Air Guitar Contest with Foreigner

By Aug 14, 2008

AARP is playing to its crowd with an air guitar contest tied to its sponsorship of rock band Foreigner’s current concert tour.

The “Air Guitar for My Guitar” contest gives baby boomer boosters of the popular rock group a shot at winning a custom Gibson electric guitar autographed by Foreigner lead guitarist and a trip to Honolulu for a New Year’s Eve party with the band.

Rock star wannabes submit a video of themselves doing their air guitar impression and lip-syncing to one of five Foreigner hit tunes online at www.WinMickJonesGuitar.com. People can also demonstrate their virtual chops in mobile recording studios on location at some of Foreigner’s concert locales during the next month.

“This is an evolution of our Foreigner tour sponsorship. Our members are Foreigner fans,” AARP spokeswoman Michelle Alvarez said.

Videos must be submitted by Oct. 31. AARP and Foreigner will pick 20 finalists and post their videos on the contest site on Nov. 17. Air guitar aficionados can then vote on those entries between Nov. 17 and Nov. 21 to pick the winner, who will be revealed online in early December.

AARP is plugging the contest on its Web site
www.aarp.org and in the monthly magazine it sends to its members.
