New England Business Service Inc., Groton, MA, a direct provider of checks, forms and personalized products for small businesses, has launched an online catalog at its e-commerce Web site at (http://www.nebs.com).

The site offers a variety of the company’s products along with online ordering capability. Additionally, visitors to the site have access to information targeted to small businesses, including business tips and techniques.

The new online catalog guides visitors step-by-step through product ordering and customization (by color, type style and logos). Shopping-cart technology enables customers to gradually “fill their carts,” select product quantities, and move to the “check out” page which summarizes the total order. Site visitors can also subscribe to a free monthly e-mail newsletter.

“Online access complements the company’s already extensive reach to the small-business marketplace through catalogs, telesales, a field sales force and a growing number of independent dealers. Approximately 100,000 orders are processed weekly through our fulfillment systems, and the infrastructure is already in place to process Internet orders with a high degree of efficiency and cost effectiveness,” said chairman and CEO Robert J. Murray in a statement.

The company also announced that Joel Hughes has joined the NEBS as senior VP of corporate channel marketing. He will oversee both the Internet initiative and the new Company Colors line of work wear. Hughes had previously been with NEBS from 1979 through 1989, when he served as director of direct marketing. Subsequently he was senior VP of direct marketing at WearGuard, and most recently he was VP of marketing, sales and service for Harvard Business School Publishing, where he was responsible for their e-commerce activities.
