Is a Racist Laundry Detergent Ad Really Ok to Air in China?

Posted on by Patty Odell

Many, many people would find the ad racist. It’s a new ad for Qiaobi laundry detergent airing in China since April that shows a black worker whistling at a young Asian woman. The woman pushes the man into a washing machine after shoving a laundry detergent pod into his mouth. When the wash cycle completes, an Asian man emerges, much to the woman’s delight.

In China, this appears to be an ok ad to run, but it has, needless to say, angered many people who have been quick to post their outrage online, the New York Times reports. The Huffington Post added to the commentary with its own commentary.
