Corona to Appear in Boxing Drama

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

Corona has gone Hollywood.

The beer brand is making an appearance in the upcoming film From Mexico with Love, a boxing drama. Corona signage will dress bar scenes and banners will be used in pivotal fights in the film. Some of the films characters will be shown drinking the beer.

The brand was chosen by Cinamour, the company producing the film, for its status as the No. 1 beer in Mexico.

“In this particular situation, there were no cash fees paid,” said Debb Smith, vice president of feature films for International Promotions, a Los Angeles-based entertainment marketing agency that brokered the product placement deal. “However, since the production was one we wanted to be associated with, we threw our full support into providing whatever they needed,” including supplies of Corona and signage to dress film sets.

From Mexico with Love follows the story of a physically tough, but emotionally self-destructive young man who is an illegal alien looking to make a new life in the United States. A washed up former trainer helps him win in the ring.

No release date has been set for the film.

Corona has appeared in a number of films, most recently, the box office hit MI:3, Smith said.
