WestJet’s PR (Holiday) Home Run
What a way to get some PR (and brand love)!
WestJet used a talking Santa Claus Kiosk at check in to ask a flight of customers what they wanted for Christmas. After the customers swiped their boarding passes, Santa began talking to them by name. Then delivered.
After the flight landed the gifts, wrapped in the WestJet colors—light blue wrapping paper and big white bows—began flowing down the baggage claim conveyor belt, each addressed to a specific passenger from Santa. Brand reps dressed as elves, and of course, Santa was on hand too to share the fun.
A video shows how excited and happy the passengers were receiving gifts from socks and underwear (yep, that’s what he asked for) to a large screen TV set. Each passenger got exactly what they asked for.
Multiple print media and broadcast outlets picked it up including The Today Show spreading plenty of holiday PR for WestJet. But not only did the promotion generate all that PR for this Calgary-based Canadian airline, but lots of brand appreciation and I’m sure loyalty as well.
