Penguin Magic’s Engagement Trick

Posted on by Beth Negus Viveiros

If you think engagement stops once the customer has placed their order, think again.

At the recent NEMOA spring conference in Boston, Steve Spangler—the founder of educational toy company SteveSpanglerScience.com—engaged attendees to his lunch keynote in a number of ways, such as getting the entire audience up on their feet to blow up giant balloons.

While that was a showy stunt, marketers can surprise and delight customers in much more simple ways that can seem magical. He showcased the example of Penguin Magic, which sends some customers videos showing them their actual order being packed.

It’s the kind of thing that makes you think it must be some kind of a trick to make the customer feel the love (which would be apt for this brand), but no, it’s real. Check out the video to see it happen—as Spangler noted, the packing slip proves it is the customer’s actual order.
