KFC’s Lickable Nail Polish. Really?

Posted on by Patty Odell

Only in the kooky promotion-marketing world might you find such a campaign: It’s a new product from KFC: lickable, edible fingernail polish in two flavors: Original and Hot and Spicy.

KFC Edible Nail PolishYes, that’s correct, lickable and edible.

The campaign, in Hong Kong, comes with advertising showing a model (in a somewhat sexy pose) licking the nail polish off her fingers with the expected tag line: “Finger Lickin’ Good.”

The Hong Kong office of Ogilvy & Mather Group can be blamed for this. In-office testing took place with the marketing and communications director for the agency claiming, “It tastes like chicken.”

There is a method—or marketing strategy if you prefer—to this madness, and the New York Times let’s us in on what can only be termed a mystery.
