Friday’s Random Ramblings

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

I have been traveling quite a bit and have not had as much time to post as I’d like. So, today, I’ll just jot down some things that come to mind:

* I read that Kim Kardashian gets $10k each time she Tweets and mentions a product that’s asked her to pitch for them. As I’m sure there are many others, I ask, does this harm the credibility of Twitter. Then again, if you follow her maybe you want to know things like this.

* The USPS postage rate increase was denied and that’s good news for catalogers and direct mail marketers short term. Long term, the USPS needs to really address expenses.

* The DMA is a few weeks away in San Francisco and I am speaking and looking forward to visiting old friends and meeting new ones.

* Are you, like me, sick and tired of all the media ads, mail, facebook posts, tweets, and emails from politicians and special interest groups?

* I was in downtown Detroit this week visiting clients and it really looks like they are trying to make the downtown viable once again.

* NFL Football may be going to 18 games soon. I’m not sure if I’m for it or not. After all, basketball, hockey and baseball seasons are already way too long.

* Has anyone seen the cable shows “Pawn Stars” or “American Pickers”? Fascinating, albeit staged, TV.

* As I continue to travel and as I see the economy struggle to recover, I still see way too much marketing that’s not measurable and is more tactically driven than strategically driven. Very frustrating.

* What in the world happened to Myspace?

That’s enough from me for now. Have a fantastic weekend.
