Billboards Tap Mobiles to Track Behavior

That billboard you just motored by may be doing more than just informing you.

track behaviorClear Channel Outdoor Americas, one of the world’s largest outdoor advertising companies, is tapping into mobile phones to track behavior as people pass by some of its billboards.

AT&T, the shoe company Toms, and other brands have partnered with Clear Channel to learn more about the people who drive by their branded billboards including age and gender and whether that person went on to visit a store.

These latest marketing technologies provide the capability to track behavior to help measure the effectiveness of billboards, but one source in this article from The New York Times, calls it “incredibly creepy.”
