A Snapshot of Google+ Statistics

Posted on

Google+ was able to amass 10 million users in just 16 days, and 20 million users within three weeks of its first day. But who are these users? Thanks to data compiled by Bime, a business-intelligence company, we can make some general assumptions about Google+’s audience.

Using data from findpeopleonplus.com, Bime was able to present a snapshot of information about more than 4.4 million Google+ users.

According to the data, 37.6 percent of Google+ users are single, 30.4 percent are married and 21.7 percent are in a relationship. Meanwhile, 5.1 percent are engaged, 2.6 percent say it’s complicated, 1.1 percent are in a domestic partnership, 0.8 percent are in an open relationship, 0.4 percent are widowed and 0.3 percent are in a civil union.

When it came to age and gender data, Bime referred to data from comScore, which showed that males accounted for 63 percent of visitors and females accounted for 37 percent. Also, 58 percent of the total Google+ audience is between 18-34 years old, with 25-34-year-olds accounting for 35 percent of the total.

Bime’s data showed that 71.2 percent of Google+ users are male, 27.8 percent are female and 1 percent are other/not indicated.

California boasted the biggest user base in the U.S. by state, followed by New York, Texas, Florida, Illinois, Washington and Pennsylvania.

The U.S. was easily the country with the most Google+ users with approximately 433,545 of the 4.4 million users examined for this report, followed by India with 142,339.

Engineers were the most popular user segment when broken down by occupation, followed by developers, designers, software engineers, Web developers, writers, software developers, programmers, photographers and teachers.

The top employer of Google+ users was (surprise, surprise) Google, followed by self-employed, IBM, Infosys, Accenture, Tata Consultancy Services, Microsoft, Apple, Cognizant Technology Solutions and Best Buy.

A presentation from Zenith Optimedia and Performics titled “Connecting the Dots…” highlighted the opportunities Google+ holds for advertisers. One of the opportunities touched upon was the ability to use circles to easily segment fan bases – “people who’ve mentioned,” “super fans” and “detractors,” for example.

The presentation predicted that Google+ wouldn’t be a “Facebook killer,” but would co-exist with its supposed competitor. Facebook is expected to take the place of Apple and mirror the battle between Google and Apple in the mobile space.

Another prediction was that brands would love Google+ because the company already owns much of the Web. “You’ll only need one partner. And commerce integration appears to be intuitive.”
