$10 Gift in the Mail Confounds Small Kansas Town

Posted on by Chief Marketer Staff

You never know what’s going to show up in the mail.

Ten dollar bills, stuffed into white envelopes, appeared Sept. 11 in the mailboxes of some residents of Turon, KN—population 436.

The sender’s identity is unknown and residents’ reactions have swung from delight at the thought that the money was a birthday gift, to anxiety in light of the anthrax attacks and pipe bombs exploding in rural mailboxes earlier this year.

Some 38 residents called or stopped by the local post office to inquire about the letters. Recipient’s names were typed onto the envelopes along with the town. No specific addresses were provided.

The postmaster, Trudy Risley, got his own letter and $10 in the mail. He said the post office was investigating, but that so far, no crime had been committed, the report said.
